Kyoto Carrot (Daucus carota)

Stunning scarlet carrots are surprisingly sweet and crisp. Long roots reach 10-12 in length; ruby color develops as they reach half length. This revered Japanese heirloom is delectable fresh from the garden, roasted, steamed, and pickled. Freezes well after blanching. Best planted in fall.

• 300 seeds minimum
• Germination: 12-18 days
• Maturity: 70-90 days
• Direct sow in late summer-early fall. Gently press scattered seeds into loosened soil. Resow in late summer for a fall crop.
• Plant in full sun and water consistently.
• Space plants 2-3 apart in rows 12 apart.
• Prefers cooler temps.
