Ajuga Catlin’s Giant

Larger foliage with rich bronze-green color.

Ajuga Catlins Giant forms a dense mat of large, glossy bronze-green foliage that brings bold texture to shaded and partly shaded garden beds. Its larger leaves give it a stronger presence than many smaller Ajuga varieties, making it especially useful where homeowners want quick coverage and visible ground-level color.

Blue spring flowers brighten the garden.

In spring, blue to deep-blue flower spikes rise above the foliage, creating a beautiful seasonal contrast. The blooms add color at a time when shade gardens are waking up and help support pollinators, including bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.

A strong ground cover where grass struggles.

Catlins Giant Ajuga is especially useful in areas where turfgrass is difficult to maintain, including under trees, along woodland edges, beneath shrubs, and in shaded borders. Its spreading habit helps cover bare soil, soften hard edges, and create a finished, planted look.

Evergreen to semi-evergreen and low maintenance.

This Ajuga is evergreen to semi-evergreen in many climates, helping beds look fuller beyond the main growing season. Once established, it requires little maintenance beyond occasional edging, runner control, and trimming spent flower spikes after bloom.

Deer-resistant coverage for shade, slopes, and containers.

Ajuga Catlins Giant is considered deer-resistant and rabbit-resistant, making it a practical option for gardens with browsing pressure. Use it as a bold ground cover, a slope stabilizer, a woodland garden plant, a path-edge accent, or a spiller in mixed shade containers.
