Beardless iris from Afghanistan (banned by the Taliban) with pale china blue flowers accented with darker veining, May > June, 10-12 tall, slowly expanding clump. Prefers sun but will take a bit of shade; good in rock gardens, nice in group plantings and in the border. Grown since the 14th century; used now in hybridizing dwarf iris.
